O porto-felicense iniciou a carreira na antiga R\u00e1dio Emissora Porto-felicense (REP) em 1960, onde atuou por 16 anos. Em seguida foi para a r\u00e1dio Clube de Sorocaba e tamb\u00e9m para a Conven\u00e7\u00e3o de Itu, com uma r\u00e1pida passagem pela R\u00e1dio Camboriu. Em 1981, voltou para a REP como rep\u00f3rter, narrador, comentarista e tamb\u00e9m diretor comercial. Em 1986, Mauro foi contratado pela r\u00e1dio Jovem Pan, de S\u00e3o Paulo, por onde permaneceu at\u00e9 2002. Em 1994 ganhou o trof\u00e9u Bola de Ouro, pr\u00eamio m\u00e1ximo do r\u00e1dio brasileiro.
